Yoga Classes with David Muehsam at Oasis Holistic
4 - 9 April 2006
About David Muehsam David first practiced yoga in 1982. He began to study Iyengar Yoga in 1987 and in 1993 he began the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. David has been given written permission from K. Pattabhi Jois to teach Ashtanga Yoga and has taught extensively in the U.S., Australia, Asia and South America. His teaching blends the safety and precision of the Iyengar method with the breathing-movement system of Ashtanga yoga to create a joyous and freely-flowing practice accessible to all ages and body types. David teaches with an emphasis on helping students to find a personal relationship with their yoga practice, adapting techniques to individual needs. He is currently leading workshops and teaching in yoga teacher training programs in Asia, Europe and the U.S.

Classes with David Muehsam
General Classes
These classes will be full yoga practices. We'll practice a variety of sequences with an emphasis on receiving the benefits of yoga in a way that is harmonious and fun. Each class will focus on a different aspect of yoga practice, such as back bending, standing postures, etc. All classes will be accessible to all levels of experience and ability, and they will be broken into two levels:
Level I: Beginner-Intermediate
90 minutes
Level II: Intermediate-Advanced
120 minutes
The Beginner-Intermediate classes will be shorter, 90 minutes, and will cover more of the basic yoga practices. The Intermediate-Advanced classes, while still accessible for beginners, will be 2 hours long, and will allow for deeper progression into the advanced variations on the basic postures. All the general classes will include pranayama practice.
Restorative Yoga Classes: Moving into Silence from Asana to Pratyahara
We'll make use of props such as blankets, belts and bolsters to make the poses easy and comfortable, so that they can be easily held without any stress or strain. By allowing the poses to develop over time, we begin to move more deeply from the 'outside' to the 'inside' of the practice: the awareness of how each posture has an effect on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. This allows the depth of each posture to reveal itself more fully, in an unhurried, natural way, leading to a state of deep relaxation. The practice of restorative yoga helps to bring about a better understanding of the profound effect that the postures have on the mind and body. Practicing the postures this way allows the senses to calm, and the mind to begin to relax into pratyahara, or awareness of internal rather than external experience.
Pranayama & Meditation
In these classes we will practice the traditional breathing practices of Hatha Yoga, conducted at a pace and level appropriate for beginners as well as experienced practitioners. We will learn how to safely and correctly practice several of the basic techniques of pranayama, that lead naturally into the meditative sense of yoga.
