This course is based on Svastha Yoga which follows the teachings of A.G. Mohan, author of Yoga for "Body, Breath & Mind" and "Yoga Therapy: Yoga and Ayurveda for Health and Fitness". He was a long-time student of the late Sri T. Krishnamacharya, whose contribution to yoga has a profound influence on how it is practiced today.
Svastha means to “stay as oneself” in a state of re-integration, health and well-being.
Svastha yoga approaches each person as a unique individual, honouring different needs, goals and limitations. It is a means to promote structural health by improving both strength and flexibility in the spine, and to bring about mental steadiness by focusing on proper breathing.
Course content:
Learning the unique active breathing technique which mobilizes the spine, and basic movement principles.
Application of proper breathing technique in various yoga asanas (poses) which are carefully sequenced to build both strength and flexibility harmoniously. The sequences taught will progress from the simple to the more challenging, combining different movements and incorporating dynamic and static postures. Adaptations will be made to these movements and postures to suit individual needs.
Students will be able to experience a meditative flow of linked sequences in a way that is particularly beneficial for the spine and back.
